Pride planning in effect
The committee is back at the table and hard at work to make 2019 a great year for our community. Mark your calendars for June 15th for our Family day event and June 22nd for our Pride Party, which are expected to be bigger and better! In the past these two events were on the same day. We have separated them to reduce the work load on our volunteers and committee members. We will also see the return of “Story time with the Queens” and “See you at the movies”, however, we will not be hosting a “Pride at Christmas” because of a lack of interest.
We are working out the details of our first “Tyrell memorial Bursary” to be presented at our Family day event on June 15, 2019. This award will be given to a youth leader on LGBTQ2S+ activism within Oxford County. It will be an annual award with a value of $500. Stay tuned early in 2019 for details on who qualifies and how to apply for this bursary.
We are also planning to host “Safe spaces” throughout the year. Keep an eye on our website for events such as Bowling, Public swims, Volleyball movies etc. Our first event will be posted shortly. It will be a Cosmic bowling event on January 26 at C & D lanes. Tickets will be available in our Pride shop shortly and offer a $5 discount off the regular price. Hope to see you there. If you have a recreational idea that you would like us to consider, please send us an email.
In March we will also be hosting our first Annual General membership meeting. Here we will recognize our sponsors and volunteers as well as elect our new committee leadership for our committee. If you are interested in getting involved and want to make a difference in your community, plan to attend; better yet forward your name as a volunteer to help out with events this year.
In closing, Thank you for your support and generosity over the years. We are truly making a difference in our community.
